Lori-anne’s Story…

“I had no idea what I was going to do with my life…then this happened…”

The year was 1996.

I was burnt out.

I was working for Landmark, a personal development organization. A big part of my job was traveling all around the world…and I was tired of it.

I needed a break. So, I took a sabbatical.

I had no idea what I was going to do with my life.

But I knew deep down inside that I wanted to do something that would make a difference in people’s lives.

I’ve always been one of those people who wanted to do my part to “save the world” if you will.

During my sabbatical, I focused on listening. It’s easy to do when you don’t have to be anywhere and you’re not busy all the time.

When you listen, you open yourself up to new ideas and opportunities. You see, I had practices and rituals that supported me throughout my life. Perhaps sharing my ideas would be my way of “making the world a better place?”

Then one night, it came to me in the form of three sentences:

Remember who you are.

Discover what you love.

Be true to yourself.

Once I had those three sentences, everything else fell into place. It was as if a gift was being channeled through me.

I held my first Authentic to the Core (at that time called “Passion and Power) in 1997. The attendees were mothers and daughters. Women who were either friends of mine or family members.

It was a huge hit. Everyone gained valuable insights about who they are, what they want out of life and how to live life in tune with their values and true self.

Now in 2017 looking back on twenty years of Authentic to the Core retreats, it’s easy for me to get emotional about the impact it’s had on people’s lives.

I think of Ryan Mullens who took Authentic to the Core, not once, but twice. The first time when he was 18 in 1999 and again in 2015. Ryan credits Authentic to the Core with giving him a better sense of himself and more self-confidence. From not having a clear direction in life, he’s moved into higher education where he now has a Master’s degree.

I think of Andrew Love, who took the program when he was 15. Andrew says that Authentic to the Core has led him down “a beautiful path.” He is now more open, has deeper conversations and “fuller, more beautiful relationships” with people. Thanks in part to the skills and insights he learned about himself, he is now, among other things, the youngest professional opera singer in Canada.

I think of my family. Some of my sisters have taken the program and it’s brought us closer together. We have a better understanding of who each other is and a greater acceptance of our differences.

I think of my daughter Terra who was training to be a pilot. During her training, she had a horrific car accident. Her eyesight was diminished which resulted in her losing the right to fly. Because she knew what her essence or gift was she was able to move on and find ways to express her essence.

In total, over a thousand people have been through the program over the years!

What about you?

Are you looking to be more open? Are you looking to get to know yourself better so you can improve your life and interact with the other people in your life better too? Could you use a shot of self-confidence? Are you looking for a more fulfilling path in life?

If so, I invite you to attend the 20th-anniversary retreat of Authentic to the Core.

It’s a wonderful thing to see people stepping into their lives like that.

It’s been an honour and a privilege to witness people’s outcomes.

I look forward to meeting you and witnessing your outcome too.
